Works on Paper and Canvas

Artist Statement and Bio

I have been painting in acrylic medium for the past seven years, studying abstract and figurative painting under a variety of accomplished, nationally known painters. In my work I attempt to combine a vivid color sense with an expressionist line to create strong images for the viewer.

Abstract painting is a welcomed departure from life’s routines, schedules, societal and family expectations.  When we wake each day, we have a schedule, a plan, an expectation of what needs to be accomplished. Abstract painting offers an almost overwhelming amount of freedom and no expectations.  There’s no schedule, no preconceived plan or image, no direction or steps on how to proceed. One begins with a blank canvas, focused on the process, and unconcerned with the final destination. Abstract painting stems from a dream, a journey of self, an exercise of faith -- to a finished product that will hopefully affect the viewer in a lyrical and personal way.
Landscape painting is also a journey: preserving the color and richness of nature in a lasting image for years to come.  I try to capture the excitement, the energy, the light, and the peace in the vistas I am viewing.
A native of Baltimore, I left a career in marketing and joined Second Spring, a group of six women artists who began painting together in 2000.
